Headaches in Ramadan

During Ramadan, Muslims experience headaches for a variety of reasons, the most common of which are low blood sugar, lack of water, caffeine, and sleep.

Many people believe eating sweets at Suhoor will improve blood sugar levels throughout the day, but this is not true.

Dehydration and lack of sugar and salts in the body during fasting can cause numerous problems including headache, lethargy, muscle weakness, dizziness, drop in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, and others. In severe cases, you may even faint.

In the month of Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink anything for 15 to 16 hours, while there are many changes in the lifestyle and body, including the reduction in sleep duration.

According to a study conducted in Denmark, the frequency of headaches increased by 4.1% during fasting, with most headaches occurring after 16 hours of fasting and decreasing only after breaking the fast

What is the treatment for headaches during fasting? Let's find out:

Consuming fiber foods:

Common causes of headaches during fasting can be hunger, dehydration, and sleep deprivation.

Therefore, the simple solution to headaches is to make sure that you never skip the suhoor meal, and maximize the consumption of fibrous foods at suhoor.

Fibrous foods include cabbage, carrots, potatoes, wheat, apples, and bananas.

Increase water intake:

Since fasting for 15 hours causes dehydration in the body, make it a habit to drink at least 4 glasses of water in Suhoor and one glass of water every half hour or one hour after Iftar.

Caffeine consumption

Try to drink a cup of coffee in the morning, drinking coffee will reduce the risk of caffeine release from the body

Get enough sleep:

Lack of sleep is a significant cause of other problems including headaches.

Regulate sleeping hours during Ramadan, avoid staying up late, and make sure to sleep during the day which will definitely help your health.

Stay in cool places during the day and avoid the sun or hot areas as much as possible.

Minimize the use of laptops or computers or mobile phones during this time, so it is very important that you focus on a good night's sleep.

Note:  readers must consult their physician in this regard.
